Posted by: Dorian Cole -- Thursday, September 17, 2009

You may have heard mentions of our Volunteer Vacation program thats been a work in progress for the past few months. Today we sent out an email with a video promoting Volunteer Vacations. To be perfectly honest, I love the video. If I didnt already live in Maine, Id be booking a flight. You should really watch it.

For out-of-staters wanting to help&During the month leading up to the November 3rd election, our campaign will be hosting a team of highly motivated volunteers from around the country to serve as full-time, volunteer campaign staff.  In Maine, voters begin casting their ballots in October, so were planning the Volunteer Vacation to run during the entire month of October in weeklong segments. If youre asking yourself what exactly a Volunteer Vacation is, let me take a moment to tell you. Volunteer Vacation is simple-- you take some time off in October and come to Maine for one week.  We'll get you a place to stay and put you to work as a full-time volunteer. You don't need any campaign experience-- we'll give you all the training you need. We'll work with you to provide housing options, but we'll need you to cover your travel and food. Our partners, TravelForChange.org, are coordinating travel donations if you need help with those expenses.

For Mainers wanting to help&If youre not volunteering already, you can start there. We have many different volunteer opportunities across the state, and can put you in touch with your local organizer to get more information about them. In keeping with the Volunteer Vacation theme, a great thing you can do for us is help by providing housing for those coming to Maine. Were matching volunteer needs such as allergies, pet friendly, non-smoking, etc. to the appropriate host family. Its a weeklong commitment, unless you want to offer more, a great contribution to No on 1, and a great way to meet new people and work together on this campaign.

The national movement for marriage equality is at a tipping point-- if we defeat this referendum in Maine, we'll look back on November 3rd, 2009 as a watershed moment in history. This is a moment you want to be a part of.
